Should Mold Be Professionally Removed?
Mold is a fungus that usually grows in humid and damp places with little or no ventilation. Mold can affect your health, damage your building materials and other possessions, and even cause structural damage to homes and offices. Continue reading for tips on how to kill mold yourself at home without calling a professional! However, mold doesn’t always mean the end of everything: it may be possible to get rid of it without professional help if you know how to do it correctly, taking all the necessary precautions into account.
Identify The Problem Area And Eliminate Moisture
Even though mold spores may get everywhere (and they’re around!), this doesn’t mean that you will automatically get exposed to them; unless you provide them with the necessary “ingredients” for them to grow. Mold needs a source of moisture and food to grow, so it’s crucial that you eliminate these two things, and eventually, you’ll be mold-free. Look at your property: do you notice any signs of water damage? Do you see any leaks, especially around the roof or foundation? The next step is to stop this by looking for cracks in walls, foundations, and ceilings; repairing them as soon as possible.
Besides moisture, mold also needs oxygen, so your property must be well ventilated at all times. If you can’t open up windows because nature forbids it (living on a busy street), look into using exhaust fans; they may not provide the same fresh air as the open windows, but they’re still enough to keep your house mold free.
Kill Mold With Chlorine Bleach And Detergents
It’s no secret that bleach is great against mold because it kills it on contact. This means that all you have to do is soak a cloth in chlorine bleach and wipe down the surfaces where mold was detected. Do not forget to wear gloves and protective gear before touching anything else after you’ve cleaned up the character. Don’t use scented bleaches or other cleaners: use only regular household bleach for this task, preferably at full strength, without any added additives or softeners. Ensure that your cleaning product has Sodium Hypochlorite as an active ingredient. Otherwise, it won’t kill the mold.
Also, you can use detergents (soap) and scrubbing brushes to get rid of mold: these will help remove the mold spores from the surfaces that have been exposed to them, but they won’t kill the fungus completely. It would help if you did this in conjunction with chlorine bleach or on its own when there’s no moisture left for the mold to grow.
