If you are considering moving to the City of Atlanta, consider checking out the neighborhood of Westview. This neighborhood has been home to young professionals for 30 to 40 years but has recently started to attract new families.

With a median real estate price of $493,611, the neighborhood is more expensive than most neighborhoods in Georgia. While the area is a good choice for home ownership, it has drawbacks. For one, the neighborhood’s vacancy rate is higher than 80.7% of the country’s communities, and its walk score is 59, which is less walkable than some.

Another consideration is property crime. Some longtime residents are concerned about their property taxes rising. Others have seen the neighborhood’s values rise and have moved into renovated bungalows next to the older homes in the area. In this neighborhood, you will find plenty of rainbow flags fluttering from porches.

The community has a lot to offer. Residents can take their kids to a park or playground for a day of fun. There are also plenty of restaurants and cafes to choose from. One of the most popular spots is Pijiu Belly, where you can get a burger or taco. Other options include the burger shop Morsels and Krispy Kreme Doughnuts.

The neighborhood is home to the Grady Memorial Diabetic Clinic and Viral Solutions – Southwest Atlanta. Also, there is a significant neighborhood association. It’s called the Westview Community Organization, and it covers the entire neighborhood. They have a Development Committee and a Beautification Committee. The membership elects its executive committee members for a year term.

As you might expect, the neighborhood has been affected by the recession. The foreclosure crisis caused many homeowners to lose their homes. But thanks to the new Atlanta BeltLine Westside Trail, the neighborhood is starting to see more investment. Several vacant houses are being rehabbed, and new construction is coming on.

Schools are another important consideration. The neighborhood’s schools are excellent. GreatSchools Ratings are based on several indicators, including test scores and college readiness. However, it’s best to check them out in person. And remember, not all neighborhoods have the same schools. You might be better off in an area with a solid elementary school but not a good middle or high school.

Another factor to remember is how close you are to public transportation. The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority serves Westview. Getting to work from this part of the city is relatively easy. Several bus lines run along Ralph David Abernathy Boulevard.

Renters in the area can expect to pay $1,733 a month. On the other hand, homeowners will pay less, with rents ranging from $925 to $3,000. Compared to the average for all Georgia neighborhoods, the average rental in the Westview neighborhood is lower.

Homes for sale in the area range from small cottages to Craftsman bungalows. Many are built in the early 1900s, and some streets have an array of Tudor homes.
