Fresno Chaffee Zoo
The Fresno Chaffee Zoo in Fresno, CA, is located in the City of Fresno. It is one of the five national zoological parks and one of fourteen conservation areas within California. It was established in 1960 and was designed to protect the native species of the area, including the Flamingos, Woodpeckers, Quail, and Timber Rattlesnakes.
The main attraction of the Fresno Chaffee Zoo will be Stingray Bay, where you can view manta rays, wahoo, eels, sharks, turtles, and other marine life. There are also opportunities for bird watching. You can find many species of birds here, including Northern Cardinal, Black Headed Oystercat, Emerald Dove, Black-Backed Oriole, Laceback Turtle, and Brown Recluse. The Fresno Zoo also houses an extensive collection of invertebrates and microbial organisms.
The other major attraction will be the Diablos Steamer and the Wild Cat Rollercoaster. These rides take about thirty minutes to an hour and are available for children as young as two years old. These shows will allow visitors to interact with local wildlife and even pet some of them. There is no fee to enter this portion of the park. On the weekends, free admission is given to qualified low-income families.
Another attraction is the Valley Summerlin Farm and Zoo, which is only twenty miles from downtown Fresno. This farm offers a variety of different species of livestock. You can see animals like pigs, chickens, goats, deer, elk, and coyotes, among many others. Other species can also be viewed here, like mountain goats, reindeers, antelope, rabbits, and many more. Tour guides are on hand to provide information about the various species of animals and tell you where to purchase tickets.
As you wander through this large museum area, stop by the “About Wildlife” exhibit to find out what some of the animals that live in the valley are like. You can also view rare animal shows every few weeks. Other family-friendly activities include “Cute Animals: A Day of Family Fun at the Fresno County Fair,” “Fresca Breeding & Births,” and “Anthrocony.” Many shows are also available locally via the ” Fresno County Museum of Art.”
The city of Fresno is also known for its delicious cuisine. There are numerous dining options both near and around the city. There are multiple fine dining restaurants as well as fast food choices. There is even a “Carnevale Restaurant,” where you can try the traditional Roman meals. The Carnevale is located just west of the zoo in the Main Street area.
