Does Home Depot Do Mold Remediation?
The short answer is that Home Depot does not offer mold remediation services. If they think your mold problem is caused by a leak or other situation that needs an expert, they’ll tell you where to go (they recommend professionals such as Restoration 1 .) They will, however, sell you the supplies and equipment necessary for you to do it yourself, as well as provide consultation on what to do.
Please note: this article refers specifically to Home Depot stores in Canada. We are not familiar with their US business practices.
Home Depot offers a generous selection of chemicals and protective gear for those interested in tackling their mold problems. The following items can be found at most locations: Biocide cleaners Bleachinfectants Decontamination Wipes Hydrogen Peroxide Protective gear Respirators Mold testing kits.
In addition, the store offers some contractor resources for those who plan to hire out their remediation work. These include: Plumbing & Excavation A large selection of building materials Cleaning supplies This is not an exhaustive list of all that might be found at Home Depot – you’ll have to visit your local location to see what they offer in-store.
If you’re going to attempt a DIY mold cleanup, you must take precautions against breathing/inhaling mold spores and other harmful substances. The following advice comes from Home Depot’s website :
1) Wear protective equipment such as rubber boots, rubber gloves, safety, and an N-95 respirator mask.
2) Also, wear an eyewash station nearby in case of accidental exposure to the eyes.
3) Wear appropriate clothing that will cover all skin not being protected by personal protective equipment
4) All mold meters should be tested at least every two weeks during remediation or after using a biocide
5) You must perform TPC sampling before and after any mold removal operations
6 ) Dispose of contaminated materials by wearing PPE, sealing them in plastic bags, double-bagging them, disposing of them in sealable drums or boxes, and putting these containers outside for garbage pickup
If your cleanup turns out to be larger than you planned for, don’t panic – Home Depot can help you complete the job. Once one scope of work is finished, they’ll assist you in ordering more supplies and materials to finish the cleanup.
As with any DIY project, there’s a risk of injury or property damage involved. If you don’t know what you’re doing, it would be wise to hire out the work to professional mold specialists such as those at Restoration1. These guys can help manage your mold problem from the start (removing the source of the contamination) to finish (keeping future moisture levels down using dehumidifiers, fans, and air purifiers.)
