Southside Theatre Guild
The Southside Theatre Guild is a community theatre located in downtown Fairburn, a southern suburb of Atlanta Georgia. It was founded in 1973 as a non-profit organization, with the mission to provide high-quality theatrical performances and educational programs to the local community.
The theatre has a 200-seat auditorium, complete with state-of-the-art sound and lighting equipment. It is housed in the historic Old Campbell County Courthouse, which was built in 1912 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The Southside Theatre Guild produces a variety of plays and musicals throughout the year, ranging from classic dramas and comedies to contemporary works and family-friendly productions. Past productions have included “A Streetcar Named Desire,” “The Diary of Anne Frank,” “Little Shop of Horrors,” “Hairspray,” and “The Sound of Music.”
In addition to its mainstage productions, the Southside Theatre Guild also offers educational programs for students of all ages. The theatre hosts a summer drama camp for children aged 6-17, where they can learn acting, singing, dancing, and other theatre skills. The theatre also offers classes and workshops throughout the year, covering topics such as acting, playwriting, and technical theatre.
The Southside Theatre Guild is run by a dedicated group of volunteers, including a board of directors and a production team. The theatre’s productions are cast through open auditions, and anyone is welcome to try out for a role.
One of the unique features of the Southside Theatre Guild is its commitment to promoting local talent. Many of the actors, directors, and designers who work on the theatre’s productions are from the surrounding community. This not only helps to support local artists, but also helps to create a strong sense of community among theatre-goers.
The theatre also partners with local businesses and organizations to help promote the arts in the community. For example, it has collaborated with the Fairburn Downtown Development Authority to create an annual “Dinner and a Show” event, where attendees can enjoy a meal at a local restaurant and then attend a performance at the Southside Theatre Guild.
The Southside Theatre Guild is an important cultural institution in the Atlanta area, providing entertainment and educational opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds. It is a testament to the power of community theatre and the vital role that the arts play in bringing people together. Whether you are a seasoned theatre-goer or a newcomer to the world of live performance, the Southside Theatre Guild is definitely worth a visit.
