East Atlanta
East Atlanta is an ideal neighborhood for anyone looking to enjoy a quiet, friendly environment with access to all major city amenities. The community is home to many restaurants, bars, and shops that will delight anyone who visits. This neighborhood is also an excellent place for families to live. It is part of the Atlanta Public Schools system and is home to several charter schools.
One of the best things about East Atlanta is its pedestrian-friendly layout. Many of the homes in this neighborhood are single-family homes built during the 1940s to 1970s. While these houses aren’t cheap, they are affordable compared to many other parts of the city. Additionally, the neighborhood is an excellent location for those who enjoy walking or biking.
In terms of nightlife, East Atlanta is a hotbed of entertainment. You’ll love the local venues and festivals if you’re into music. These include the annual East Atlanta Craft Beer Festival. This yearly event brings together 230 different brews from around the world. You’ll also find music and arts at the East Atlanta Twilight Criterium.
Atlanta was a supply hub for the southern war effort during the Civil War. Many African-Americans were able to purchase land and start businesses. When the Civil War ended, the area quickly recovered. However, the Battle of East Atlanta was one of the most significant battles fought in City of Atlanta, Georgia, resulting in over 12,000 casualties. Among the dead were Confederate General Walker, Union General McPherson, and a handful of other notable soldiers.
There is plenty of street art to be found in East Atlanta. Although the neighborhood is considered a gentrified area, it is still welcoming to people of all backgrounds. Some residents carpool with friends and more than 80 percent of the population relies on private vehicles for daily transport.
The neighborhood is also home to several museums and parks. Brownwood Park has some excellent hiking trails and sports facilities. Another notable site is the Jimmy Carter Library and Museum in East Atlanta. During the 1960s, the area was a target of the civil rights movement.
The area also hosts those above ol’ fashioned the Madonna-Rama. In honor of the singer’s birthday, the town holds a concert at Mary’s in East Atlanta. Those unable to attend may consider visiting the East Atlanta Farmers Market, held each Thursday throughout December.
The city of Atlanta has undergone many changes in the past 150 years. But one thing has remained consistent. The community continues to expand and remain a vibrant and energetic neighborhood. Today, it is home to a large number of same-sex couples.
Other sites of interest in the area are the Atlanta Beltline, Oakland Cemetery, and the Jimmy Carter Library and Museum. Several colleges and universities are also located in the neighborhood.
Despite its relatively low crime rate, the neighborhood is also known for its pedestrian culture. Unlike most communities, the area is centered on a thriving business district encouraging people to get around on foot.
