Atlanta Botanical Garden
The Atlanta Botanical Garden is a thirty-acre botanical garden in Midtown Atlanta. Established in 1976, the Garden’s mission is to develop and maintain plant collections for display and education. It also focuses on plant conservation and enjoyment. Visitors will have the opportunity to learn more about the various plants and flowers found in Georgia.
The Atlanta Botanical Garden is serviced by MARTA buses. You can take a bus from the Arts Center to the main entrance of the Atlanta Botanical Garden. The Atlanta Botanical Garden has many attractions and exhibits for young children. The conservatory features desert and tropical plants and a beautiful orchid display. The amphibian lobby display is especially appealing to kids. There’s also a dome where you can view frogs, butterflies, and other rare plants. The Kendeda Canopy Walk, a 600-foot-long walkway, provides excellent views of Storza Woods. The Garden also features glass floral sculptures.
The Atlanta Botanical Garden hosts the Garden Lights Holiday Nights event in winter. From November 14 to January 9, the Garden is filled with holiday magic. The Garden is decorated with colorful displays and offers bars and fire pits. A stay at a Midtown Atlanta inn near the Garden allows you to take advantage of this spectacular event.
Many special events and educational classes are also held at the Atlanta Botanical Garden. The Garden is open Tuesday through Sunday and offers discounts for families. Parking is available in the SAGE parking deck next to the gardens. Alternatively, you can take the MARTA bus #27 to the park entrance. Street parking is also available in surrounding residential areas.
Atlanta Botanical Garden is a 30-acre urban oasis in Midtown Atlanta. The Garden includes an award-winning Children’s Garden, a canopy walk through Storza Woods, and the Fuqua Conservatory, an organic biosphere. The Fuqua Orchid Center, a museum dedicated to rare orchids, is another highlight. The Garden also hosts a Garden Lights holiday extravaganza in the winter.
Several nationally recognized conservation initiatives are centered at the Garden. The Garden has an Orchid Conservation Institute, a conservation greenhouse for endangered plants, and a frog conservation program. These programs allow visitors to learn about the environment, endangered species, and their habitats.
The greenhouse is connected to the Fuqua Orchid Center, where rare orchids grow and are protected. There is also an orchid center with the most extensive collection of species of orchids in the U.S. It features orchids from tropical rainforests and deserts. The conservatory also has a room devoted to tropical birds, turtles, and poison dart frogs.
In winter, the Gardens turn into an enchanting winter wonderland, and the gardens are decorated with over 1 million lights. A festive Garden Lights holiday night in November and January displays the Garden as the Earth Goddess transforms into the Ice Goddess.
